People everywhere are realizing the benefits of using natural products and companies have taken notice. Customers are no longer satisfied with products that work well but are horrible for their health. If you’re anything like me, you want products that work well and aren’t toxic to your family or the environment. You want natural products in every aspect of your life ranging from beauty to natural cleaning products.
Companies have responded to this demand by supposedly developing ‘natural’ products. The problem is, a lot of products are what people are now referring to as, greenwashed.
According to Greenwashing Index, greenwashing is ‘when a company or organization spends more time and money claiming to be “green” than they do actually implementing business practices that minimize environmental impact’ and healthier alternatives to conventional products.
No Standard Definition
Did you know the FDA does not have a standard definition for the word ‘natural’? This makes it incredibly easy for companies to label their products as ‘natural’ when, in reality, their products are not clean or healthy in the least.
Most products labeled ‘natural’ still contain pesticides, endocrine disruptors, GMOs, and other toxins which can cause reproductive problems or even cancer.
I know how frustrating this can be. Even if you are interested in living a more organic, non-toxic lifestyle, having to research every product is enough to make anyone throw up their hands in defeat.
This is why I used EWG to come up with a shopping list of 24 Natural Cleaning and Personal Care Products for you which can be accessed in my resource library.
What is EWG?
EWG is the Environmental Working Group which is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to protecting human health and the environment.
Their website, EWG.org, lists thousands of products (and their ingredients) and grades them on their toxicity levels.
EWG has databases for:
Wading Into a Cleaner, More Natural Lifestyle
The thought of living a cleaner lifestyle can often be intimidating, but with the right tools it doesn’t have to be. You can use EWG, myself, and the shopping list in my resource library to help you out.
Anytime you run out of a product you normally use around the home, check your list and see if there is a cleaner alternative you could use instead. If something doesn’t work for you, check EWG for another product that rates well. You can also go to my Contact Me page and I will be more than happy to give you other ideas.
